The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo began in the late 1940s to show our city’s beauty and history. Throughout the years, it has evolved into an event that most of San Antonio partake in. The rodeo offers many more things than one would expect, such as stock shows and carnival rides; it also offers regional and cherished foods like funnel cakes and blooming onions. But let us face the truth: SASSR is known for its headlining artists!
Sunday, February 18, the rodeo had one of its biggest guests performing that night: Grupo Duelo. Me and my family were going to attend that day. Just before leaving the house, my mom got a call from her cousin who was watching the news. The news was shocking. Grupo Duelo had a tragic bus accident on their way from Monterrey. They were performing that day; naturally, their fans were excited to see them. The tragic news hit fast and the rodeo decided to bring out another group, namely, Los Tigres del Norte. Although I was kinda sad to not see Grupo Duelo, I at least knew that Los Tigres were good. Throughout the day, we were able to ride some attractions and to eat the famous food. As always, it was a beautiful night.
When it was time for the concert, it was noticeable that the news about the Grupo Duelo’s accident had not traveled that fast. Most fans were leaving in disappointment. However, those who knew Los Tigres del Norte had a pleasant surprise.
