The Great North American Eclipse will take place on April 8, 2024.
We are lucky to be in San Antonio and not just for the great Tex-Mex food. This time, our city is on the path of a total solar eclipse. We will get less than a minute of total and complete darkness (from 1:33:50 pm to 1:34:38 pm); however, partial parts of the eclipse will be seen from 12:15 pm to 2:50 pm.
Can you believe that the next time we see another similar eclipse in the US, we will all be in our late thirties? The following Great North American Eclipse will happen on August 12, 2045, and will mainly be visible around Florida territory.
In between, two other eclipses will present themselves in US territory. The first one will occur in 2033 and only be visible in Alaska; the second is expected to occur in 2044 and only in North Dakota.
Exciting. But do not let the intrigue get to you that much. Please make sure to wear appropriate eye protection if you want to see this year’s eclipse. Dr. Ralph Chou, an optometry professor and expert on eclipse filters and safety, explains that staring directly at the Sun is always dangerous; however, during eclipses, it is easier to focus your eyes on the exact sun rays. Dr. Chou has explained that after looking at the eclipse without protection, some people’s retinas portrayed an outline of the partially-eclipsed Sun burnt into them— damaged.
I get it, though. I want to see it too. I present a link to US-made eclipse glasses that meet the ISO 12312-2 standard! Click Here
